Media Center Policies

The purpose of the Media Center is:

  • To increase or develop a love for reading.
  • To increase the desire and ability to self-select reading materials that meet student individual interests and reading skills.
  • To provide access to a carefully selected and organized collection.
  • To provide resources for learning.
  • To provide opportunities that encourages students to become capable users of information.

Media Center Policies

  • Students must enter and exit through the main media center doors across from the office.
  • Students may check out books for a period of two (2) weeks.
  • Kindergartners, first and second graders may check out one (1) book at a time.
  • Students in grades 3 through 5 may check out up to two (2) books at a time, one fiction and one non-fiction.
  • If a student has any books overdue, they may not check out another book until it is returned.
  • Books may be renewed for one (1) additional two (2) week period.
  • Reference books may be used in the Media Center.
  • There are no fines for overdue books.
  • Students will pay for the replacement cost of books that have been damaged or lost. Replacement cost must be fulfilled before any further books may be checked out throughout Orange County Public Schools. This debt is carried over each year.
